What Items Should Never Be Missing from Your Vehicle?

Vehicles make it possible to move cargo and people comfortably and safely. But to maintain that safety, you need to carry certain items.

Essential items for a vehicle

Vehicles make it possible to move cargo and people comfortably and safely. But to maintain that safety, you need to carry certain items.

Safety isn't just about the driver, passengers or companions. It's also about other vehicles and pedestrians. In addition, the law requires certain items that help keep order on the roads.

So let's look at the items that should never be missing to ensure safety, order and comfort.

  1. Spare tire and tire-changing tools

The spare tire is without a doubt one of the most important items in any vehicle. Unfortunately, a tire can go flat or get damaged anywhere and at any time, and without one the car can't move.

Fortunately, changing a tire is relatively easy if you have the right tools. That's why, along with the spare tire, you need a jack to lift the vehicle and all the tools required to change it.

  1. Tool kit

An additional tool kit should include everything needed for basic, general jobs on the vehicle, such as pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, nuts, tape, wrenches, a pocketknife and similar items.

Also include a cleaning cloth, gloves, cleaning fluid and anything else you find useful for a basic repair. Stores now sell kits designed specifically for vehicles, but you can also put together your own.

  1. Jumper cables

Jumper cables are something we need when we least expect it. They're used to jump-start the battery,  whose drain may come from a mechanical fault.

Other times, it simply happens from overusing the vehicle's lights, setting off alarms, playing music or accidentally leaving the doors open.

Either way, you should always carry a set of cables to solve this kind of problem. They can also help you assist other drivers on the road.

  1. Empty container or bottle

This item lets you get fuel from the nearest gas station. It also comes in handy if you need water to cool down an overheating vehicle.

  1. Warning signals

Warning signals consist of a reflective vest and safety triangles. They are especially important if your vehicle breaks down at night. They protect you while you move around the vehicle by alerting other drivers to your presence on the road.

Using them helps protect the people in your vehicle and other vehicles on the road. If you need help, they also make it easier to mark  your location.

  1. First-aid kit

Accidents happen every day, which is why a first-aid kit with basic supplies is very helpful. It can be extremely useful while waiting for medical help, and sometimes it can make the difference in survival. Fortunately, you can find basic kits in stores and pharmacies.

  1. Identification documents

First, the driver should always carry personal identification and a driver's license. You also need to have  the vehicle's documents, such as the title, license plate registration and proof of tax payment. All of these documents are important in case of an accident or if the authorities request them as part of road safety checks.

In the Dominican Republic, it is also mandatory to keep an up-to-date insurance policy. If the vehicle carries goods, the law also requires documents showing their origin. Beyond the documents mentioned, each country has its own requirements that are worth checking.

While these are the items that should never be missing, it's also true that some needs depend on how the vehicle is used. For example, if you transport children, it's a good idea to always carry a car seat and a few things to keep them entertained. In short, carry anything else that makes using the vehicle easier.

  1. GPS devices

Today, GPS devices have become an almost essential item in any vehicle. That's because GPS gives you your precise location wherever you are. In case of a breakdown or accident, you can also share your exact location to get help.

Second, if the vehicle is stolen, GPS makes it much easier to locate. And of course, it helps you avoid getting lost on the road.

If your GPS is on your phone, it's a good idea to always carry a battery charger as well. That way, you can make sure your GPS always works.

At Hunter, we offer our GPS Monitoring System, Hunter Track, which provides these benefits and more. If you'd like more information, you can reach us at 809.620.2002 or visit hunter.do.
